Jean-Jacques Beauvarlet-Charpentier (1734–1794) was a celebrated French organist and composer. He was born in Abbeville. From 1763, he was a member of the Académie des Beaux Arts de Lyon. From 1783 to 1793 he was organist at the Notre Dame de Paris. Beauvarlet-Charpentier composed sonatas for keyboard and violin and numerous pieces for organ. He died in Paris. (source: Wikipedia) I recorded this fine piece (part of Journal d'Orgue VII, Opus perigisti - Himne pour le jour de l’Ascension) on a not so typical organ model for this repertoire. However, I love the Doppelföte of this Walcker/Eule organ, which almost sounds like a real traverso. So this was a nice chance to use it.
