How We Landed a Jurassic Giant for YouTube! Lake Winnebago Sturgeon Spearing!

This video documents the sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. The video follows Nate Williams, an Okie from Muskogee, who travels to the great white north to try his hand at sturgeon spearing. Sturgeon spearing is an ancient method of fishing/hunting and is one of Wisconsin's oldest traditions. The Lake Winnebago system is one of only two places in the world where you can legally spear Lake Sturgeon and Wisconsin and The Winnebago system have the largest and most thriving population of Lake Sturgeon in the world. Nate teams up with Dr. Nick and and Brett Walser for this epic adventure! There are quota caps that can close what is already considered a short season even earlier. Some years over 12,000 tags are sold and only 6-9 percent of spearers successfully fill their tags. This year 17 vehicles will go through the ice during the Winnebago spearing season. The crew will be battling not only strict time constraints, but also weak, dangerous, and deteriorating ice conditions. This season will test their mental and physical toughness.
