Myanmar's military crackdown has initiated a wave of protests across Europe and Asia, where thousands of demonstrators have joined in protests against the junta. About three hundred Myanmar nationals working in Thailand held a pro-democracy demonstration outside their country's embassy in Bangkok on Sunday. Many of them carried placards that denounced the recent crackdown by Myanmar's military junta against the pro-democracy protests. They also called for the junta to release the monks and civilians who were arrested after the crackdown. One Australian protester who joined the demonstrations in Bangkok said he hoped for "people in Burma to be able to have a voice, to be able to decide for themselves their future, and not to be repressed". One group of protesters re-enacted the events in Yangon last month, when soldiers opened fire on demonstrators on 26 and 27 September, bringing to an abrupt end all resistance. The government admitted 10 people, including a Japanese photographer, were killed in the violence. In addition, it says 135 Buddhist monks remain in custody.
