North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presided over a ceremony in Pyongyang on Friday, awarding state honours to soldiers whom state media say returned from combat in Ukraine and paying tribute to those killed. The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim conferred “hero” titles on commanders and rank-and-file troops said to have fought alongside Russian forces in the Kursk border region against Ukraine. He also placed medals beside portraits of fallen North Korean personnel, described by KCNA as “martyrs.” “The participants of overseas operations, through their steadfast struggle and noble sacrifice, achieved great feats that will be remembered in history forever,” Kim said in his address, according to KCNA.
