I woke up this morning to the tragic news that Chris Cornell had passed away at age 52. Like most people my age, I was indelibly influenced by Chris' beautiful voice and underrated, powerful songwriting. I've been a Soundgarden fan all my life and there are few records in existence that rival the sheer power of Temple of the Dog's seminal record. When Audioslave came out I thought they were great. I had the first record but didn't keep up with them much. However, the lyrics to "Like A Stone" have always haunted me. Even then, all those years ago, I remember REALLY hearing this song for the first time. The actual lyrics. I remember understanding what this song was about and feeling sad and afraid for Chris. Today this song hits home in a way I wish it didn't. I hope wherever he is, it's peaceful and he knows that his brief time on Earth was spent keeping people like me alive and sane. Rest in peace, Chris. We'll all miss you.
