Tubbergen is a municipality and town located in the province of Overijssel, in the eastern Netherlands. As of 2021, it has a population of approximately 21,000 residents. Geography Situated in the Twente region, Tubbergen shares a border with Germany. The municipality encompasses several villages and hamlets, including Albergen, Fleringen, Geesteren, Haarle, Harbrinkhoek, Hezingen, Langeveen, Mander, Manderveen, Mariaparochie, Reutum, Tubbergen, and Vasse. History In December 1971, Tubbergen was the site of a farmers' revolt triggered by a controversial land consolidation plan. The unrest led to riots, property damage, and confrontations with law enforcement. The plan was eventually rejected in a subsequent vote in 1973. Culture and Attractions Tubbergen is known for its beautiful countryside and charming villages. The town offers various attractions, including historical sites, natural landscapes, and local eateries. Visitors can explore the Sint-Pancratius Basilica, traditional Dutch architecture, and scenic walking and cycling routes. Notable People The town is the birthplace of several notable individuals, such as Herman Schaepman (1844–1903), a Dutch priest, politician, and poet, and Gerco Schröder (born 1978), an Olympic show jumping equestrian.
