The Union Limited Zambezi 1996 - Part 1 - Vereeniging to Louis Trichardt via Pretoria

In May 1996, the Union Zambezi Limited was running as a private charter train from Capetown to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. It route took the train from Capetown to de Aar, Kimberly, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Louis Trichardt, Beitbridge, Bulawayo and then to Victoria Falls via Hwange. The train was pulled (with few exceptions) by steam engines for the whole route - a steam adventure no longer possible in this form. Part 1 shows scenes of the train running through the Gauteng area and through Transvaal (today Limpopo) towards Louis Trichardt. The train is pulled by two different SAR Class 15F 4-8-2 steam engines. In the second half of part 1, the train is struggling with a grade but manages to pull the train over it without stalling.
