CNC Pen Plotter Demo - Adam Savage Line Art

#penplotter #adamsavage This is a demo of my homebuilt CNC pen plotter. Adam Savage's image was chosen to draw because he is one of my favorite Makers. I designed the pen plotter in Fusion 360 and constructed it with parts I had on hand and 3D printed the rest in PLA. The main electronics consist of a 12v Mean Well power supply, an Arduino Uno board with a CNC shield and (2) A4988 motor drivers, a voltage step down board, and component landing board made from perf board. A specialized version of GRBL software for hobby servo pen plotters by Erik-Jan van Kesteren was uploaded to the Arduino to control the machine. The photo of Adam Savage was converted to line art in a program called DrawingBotV3. I used the free version to try it out - very cool software. The image was saved out as an SVG and sent to LightBurn laser software to create a G-code file. Lightburn outputs M3 and M5 codes that would normally be used to turn a machine spindle on/off. These are read in the special GRBL software to raise/lower the pen with a hobby servo. The G-code was sent to the plotter with another free program, OpenBuilds CNC controller. This was all done on a Mac computer. This was a fun project. I have upgrades planned for the motor drivers and some of the other components. Thanks for watching!!
