Homemade Loom and Weaving an Irish Crios

Continuing with making up a costume for this year's After Dark Renaissance Faire, I've decided to make an Irish style woven belt called a Crios. The traditional method is to weave it while holding one end with you foot and/or to use a backstrap loom (this is a sort of clamp arrangement that ties to your body, and your waist/back because the base), but after I did my first strap, it was clear I needed a bit more ... ummm ... (support is not the right word) ... something to help keep everything a bit more sorted (yeah that works). So after looking around I found one by a company called Beka (their 4" rigid heddle loom to be exact), and while I do plan on buying one soon, now wasn't the time for that. Luckily the setup isn't too complicated, so I made my own. it works fairly well, thought I did have to figure out how to make it do the best it do as I worked. Needless to say, I made my Crios, so it worked. I still want to get the one I found online(I'll leave a link in the notes below), but this got me for now. I also found out the local community art place has a loom for public use so I'm going to give that a look in the meantime. I think I'll keep playing around with weaving for a bit.
