Storm Borrasca Claudia First Arrival at Playa del Ingles Gran Canaria #explogc #explore #grancanaria Storm Borrasca Claudia – First Arrival at Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria | Streets Flooded, Power Outages, Heavy Rain The night when Borrasca Claudia arrived in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria, will be remembered as the first true autumn storm of 2025. What began as distant thunder over the Atlantic quickly turned into a night of intense rainfall, flooding, and power cuts across the south of the island. 🌧️⚡ As darkness fell, the first part of the storm system swept in from the ocean. Within minutes, streets turned into rivers — water rushing past curbs and flooding crossroads around Avenida de Tirajana and the Yumbo area. Cars moved slowly through deep puddles while streetlights flickered and went dark one by one. The tropical resort that normally glows with nightlife and color fell silent, illuminated only by lightning flashes reflecting on wet asphalt and palm leaves. This is the first real impact of Storm Claudia — and it marks the beginning of a powerful Atlantic system that will continue to influence the Canary Islands for several days. 🌪️ ABOUT BORRASCA CLAUDIA “Claudia” is the name given by AEMET (the Spanish Meteorological Agency) to a new Atlantic low-pressure system declared a borrasca de gran impacto — a “high-impact storm.” It formed west of the Canary Islands and began pushing moist, unstable air toward the archipelago on November 12–13, bringing: Heavy and persistent rainfall Strong winds, especially in mountainous and coastal areas Rough seas and high waves along the southern and western coasts Local flooding and temporary power outages The arrival over Gran Canaria was earlier and stronger than expected — the south and southwest, including Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas, and Arguineguín, saw some of the heaviest rainfall so far this season. 🌦️ WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE UPCOMING DAYS (Updated November 13, 2025) According to AEMET and local meteorological stations: 🌧️ Thursday, Nov 13 – Friday, Nov 14: Continued rain showers, sometimes intense, especially overnight and in early morning hours. Wind gusts up to 70–80 km/h in higher areas. Rough seas along southern and western coasts – avoid walking near breakwaters and cliffs. Possible new thunderstorms forming over the central mountain range. 🌦️ Saturday, Nov 15: Intermittent rain with possible sunny intervals in the afternoon. Cooler temperatures (around 20–22°C daytime). Roads in ravines and mountain passes may remain slippery — drive carefully. 🌤️ Sunday, Nov 16 – Monday, Nov 17: Gradual improvement. Rainfall becomes lighter and scattered. Clearer skies returning, especially in the eastern parts (Telde, Las Palmas). Sea conditions still moderate to rough — caution advised for boating and swimming. After that, another weak Atlantic front may approach mid-next week, keeping the air fresh and humid. 📸 FILMED BY EXPLOGC This video captures the first wave of Borrasca Claudia in Playa del Inglés — filmed by ExploGC Explore Gran Canaria. Through flooded streets, reflections, and the sound of rain, this is how the south of the island looks when nature shows its strength. 🎥 Watch until the end for a glimpse of the storm’s power — from the first drops to the partial blackout that covered Playa del Inglés that night. 🌀 SAFETY REMINDER Local authorities advise residents and visitors to: Stay away from dry riverbeds (barrancos) during heavy rain. Avoid coastal promenades and sea walls when waves are high. Secure loose outdoor items like umbrellas and signs. Follow weather updates from AEMET and Cabildo de Gran Canaria. 📍 ABOUT THIS VIDEO Filmed on location in Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas area, south of Gran Canaria.
