►Replacing your 987's tie rods will be necessary at higher mileage. The handling balance and precision most owners rave about is diminished as the inner and outer tie rods wear out through thousands of miles of use. Although it happens gradually, they loosen up, becoming vague and sloppy. Eventually, they'll begin to cause a clunking or knocking noise during normal driving. Tie rods typically reach their wear point as early as 70,000 miles but can last up to 100,000 before replacement is completely necessary. The job itself is relatively straightforward and certainly DIYable, but a suspension alignment is necessary once the new parts are bolted in as the toe angle has been changed. Be sure to schedule the alignment at a shop familiar with European performance cars. In this video, Mike Hidalgo, FCP Euro's professional DIY'er, replaces the tie rods on a Porsche 987 Cayman. 00:00 - Intro & Tools Needed 03:47 - Porsche 987 Front Wheel Removal 05:32 - Porsche 987 Tie Rod Replacement 20:34 - Porsche 987 Front Wheel Install 21:32 - Wrap-up Shop the parts used in this video: Porsche 987 Tie Rod Kit: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/pors...
