The articles talk about a couple of in-development features that could allow easier access across multiple Android devices. With the reported ability to sync notifications, share files, stream apps from those other devices, and more. #android #android15 #android16 App Cast for Android First, let's talk about this feature for Android that seems like it will be called App Cast. Strings about this feature were discovered recently after the latest beta update to Google Play Services was pushed out to the community. They were able to find evidence of a feature Google is working on that allows a specific application to be cast. It can fetch an app list from a remote device. And they are seeing it is starting a cast session. . .and those apps seem to be able to be launched from that remote device as well. So, based on this information, it looks as if Google is working on a feature that could allow you to connect one Android device to another. Since it's using the word Cast. . .it's likely going to leverage the Google Chromecast style of connection. Which means your devices will need to be on the same WiFi network. . . And it sounds like Android will be able to launch these apps on that remote device. . .but the system is having the contents of the app streamed. . .aka cast to the phone or tablet you're actively using. An interesting feature that I know I have seen requested time and time again from the community. We've seen similar features developed for Android over the years. With Microsoft's Phone Link system being the latest that comes to mind. But those apps have had to leverage 3rd-party connections and this App Cast feature from Google may actually be a way for it to be embedded within the operating system. Potentially opening things up for much deeper integration between devices. Android Handoff Style Features On the other hand, just yesterday it was reported that Google has also been busy working on something that could function similarly to what Apple calls Handoff. And that's actually what Google is calling it right now while it's in development as well. I suspect Google will end up renaming the feature before it's launched, but we'll have to wait and see before we know for sure. This new Android Handoff feature that's being worked on right now could be a way for you to access apps and files across your devices. And it could even be a way for Android to finally offer a feature that will sync your notifications across all of your devices on the network. So, like we saw with this App Casting feature, this was discovered after going through the code of the latest Google Play Services beta update. These folks have found a string of text talking about syncing tasks, access apps, media, and notifications. They're calling this Handoff Then we see this broken down into two different sections. With one talking about syncing notifications. . .which would allow that to happen "across devices." And the other is talking about files and media sharing. . .which would allow you to access files "across your devices." So, this App Cast feature looks to be something that's tied into the Handoff feature And that's currently being worked on right now by Google. We tend to see these strings make their way into brand new updates to apps like Google Play Services As it allows Google engineers to push the code live into a production ready app update. . .but keeping it hidden from the public. Some of the time these new features are pushed live in a future update. Some of the time those features end up getting trashed and removed.
