Although much of the Directorate’s focus was on geodesy and surveying, it also produced countless maps at various scales and styles, throughout the world, and was a source of much cartographic experimentation. Dr Allan will highlight some of these aspects as seen from the position of an early employee (1954–60) both as surveyor and 'cartographic computer'.
