The Strange Case Of The Plaistow Ghost - 1889.

In May 1889, news spread around the East End of London that a ghost was making nightly appearances in the grounds of the East London Cemetery in Plaistow. In consequence, crowds flock to Upper Road, a lonely stretch of Road that ran past the railings of the cemetery, and night after night anywhere up to 200 people were jostling with each other in the hope of catching a glimpse of the supernatural entity. One of those people was 16-year-old George Orchard, who went to see what all the fuss was about, and found himself under arrest. When he appeared in court, newspapers across the country picked up on the story, and it was not long before people far and wide were reading about the Plaistow ghost. In this video, we follow the story of the spectre, from its earliest supposed appearances, through to the end of May, when its fame had spread far and wide, and, in consequence more and more people visited Upper Road to see it.
