Part 1 of 2 // Get out and shoot. That's exactly what we did on this gorgeous day in the high desert, western US. Granted it's just .22s but it's still fun and provides some good training. However shooting at bottles and cans without purpose does not provide good training and I consider it a waste of ammo. Instead make up a course of fire that strives to simulate combat conditions and induce some stress. Some friendly competition and running helps achieve this in this "Nutnfancy Run 'N Gun." The scenario requires a sprint to engage steel plate targets with pistol while on your way to your real fighting arm, an AR-15 pre-positioned on the ground at the 40 yard stage. Shooters were to shoot the 15 yard positioned plates fast and accurately with two 10-round mags, reloading in between, securing the pistol in the crossdraw vest then running to the rifles. At the AR-15 stage, the shooter engaged silhouette paper targets with two 15-round loaded Blackdog polycarbonate .22 magazines (using reliable CCI MiniMag ammo). Center of mass hits were the goal, specifically within the square shown (one gun was mis-sighted initially). Mags at this stage were downloaded to force a reload. These young shooters actually have years of shooting experience and are trained in safe, responsible gun handling. Fundamentals of marksmanship were stressed. Two new TNP cast members are introduced here: "InadvertentSmell" and "VociferousWad" (Wad is actually a graduate of a professional sniper training course and Smell is bound for the USMC). Guns used were CMMG .22 Conversion Kit-equipped AR-15s (Bushmaster variety) and Ruger 22/45 pistols (with one Tokarov too!). However any reliable, magazine feed .22 rifle and pistol could serve well here (and more cheaply...if you can find the ammo!). These .2ss provided 90% of the fun and training of centerfire options while saving much money. Also included is some of the logistical video showing the setup and work needed for the shoot. It always takes a lot of driving and work to make such a shoot happen but it's time well spent with family and friends, makes a great memory, and provides much needed trigger time. Thanks for coming along!
