This city walk starts on the Donnersbergerbrücke, with a classic view over Munich and the distant towers of the Frauenkirche on the horizon. From the busy traffic of the Mittlerer Ring we soon leave the main road behind and drift down into calmer side streets on the way towards Gollierplatz. At Gollierplatz we step into a small green pocket of the city, with a playground and trees that soften the sounds of the traffic around. Right next to it stands the Catholic church of St. Rupert, a neo-Romanesque parish church built at the beginning of the 20th century, which shapes the atmosphere of the Westend and the Schwanthalerhöhe district. From there the walk continues towards Heimeranplatz. I pass through residential streets and arrive at the square around the Sheraton Munich Westpark Hotel, taking a short moment to show its facade and slowly pan around the surrounding crossroads and tracks. In the last part of the walk, I make my way to the bridge on Hansastraße, where we get a final wide view over the Mittlerer Ring. This urban ring road, signed as Bundesstraße 2R, is the backbone of Munich’s car traffic and is known as one of the most congested roads in Germany. The video ends with the steady flow of cars and the layered soundscape of one of Munich’s busiest arteries in the background. This walk combines elevated city views, a small neighbourhood park, historic church architecture and the full hum of Munich traffic.
