An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N157UW performing flight AA-1665 from Las Vegas,NV to Charlotte,NC (USA) with 165 people on board, was climbing out of Las Vegas' runway 01R when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet, tower reported seeing flames from one of the engines (CFM56), the crew responding they needed to return. The aircraft landed safely back on Las Vegas' runway 01L about 8 minutes after departure. The crew reported the right hand engine was shut down and requested emergency services to check for any fire, tower reported they was no impending emergency, no fire seen. The aircraft is still on the ground in Las Vegas about 3.5 hours after landing. The FAA reported: "American Airlines Flight 1665 returned safely to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas around 8:20 a.m. local time on Wednesday, June 25, after the crew reported an engine issue. The Airbus A321 was headed to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The FAA will investigate." The airline reported a mechanical issue.
