This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. From Galileo's refracting telescope, which fits in a pocket yet revolutionized the world’s view of planet earth and the solar system, to the massive BICEP2 polarization telescope deployed at the South Pole, Professor Brian Keating takes us on a journey back to the big bang, some 13.8 billion years ago, and speaks to the possibility of our existence within a multi-verse, based on the data collected by this telescope. Professor Brian Keating is an astrophysicist with UCSD’s Department of Physics. He and his team of 17 students, and postdocs develop instrumentation to study the early universe at radio-, microwave- and infrared wavelengths. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications and holds a U.S. Patent. Professor Keating co-leads a collaboration operating the POLARBEAR telescope in the Atacama Desert of Chile.
