Learning meta skills will make you a more resilient person that can confidently handle the chaos and uncertainty in our every changing world. Examples of Meta Skills: 1.Discipline 2. Frustration Tolerance (Cognitive Strain) 3. Problem solving (Independently) 4. Emotional Resilience and Regulation 5. Ability to Detach you Ego Meta skills are supersedent and not narrowed down on one task, and the value in this is that you are not tied down to anything. If you were to loose your job tomorrow you would have skills that would be able to transition to a similar position, in a similar company in a similar industry. However what if the entire industry collapsed? Those skills would no longer be valued. If you have developed meta skills, though, your ability to know how to learn will be able to take you into any new endeavor with confidence. How do you develop Meta Skills? The only way to develop Meta Skills is by learning real skills. If you have experience being exceptionally good at something then you have an intuitive understanding of these Meta Skills. If you know what it feels like to learn a skill then you will be apply those universal truths to any skill you learn in the future. One of the most important Meta Skills is having and maintaining a Growth Mindset. Carol Dweck says that a growth mindset is those who believe that their success depends on time and effort and feel their skills and intelligence can be improved with effort and persistence they embrace challenges persist through obstacles learn from criticism and seek out inspiration in others success. It essentially means your abilities as a person are not fixed. (Fixed Mindset vs Growth Mindset) This is a meta skill because often times it is easy to fall into a fixed mindset and it takes repeated practice to keep applying a growth mindset to your life.
