Giovanni Mattaliano clarinet and original composition Cristian Miclea clarinet Tibi Vasile Boc Clarinet Dani Chifan basso clarinet Clarinet Camerata of Romania 16 May 2025 Orpheum Hall, Timisoara University of music "...Clarinets, clarinets, clarinets... May 16, 2025, Orpheum Hall of the Faculty of Music and Theatre in Timișoara. Recital by the Faculty's Clarinet Ensemble and the Camerata di Romania Clarinet Ensemble. Two warmly welcoming organizers: professor Cristian Miclea, University of the West in Timișoara, and Tibi Vasile Boc, clarinetist of the Arad Philharmonic. Works by Giovanni Mattaliano (conductor and composer), Astor Piazzola, Claire Grundman (conductor, professor Cosmin Hărşian). Speaking of the clarinet, we fondly remember the "Clarinots" ensemble, made up of the three members of the Ottensamer clarinet clan: Ernst (father), Daniel (eldest son), solo clarinetist of the Vienna Philharmonic, and Andreas (middle son), solo clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic (there was no more room at home...). Sadly, Ernst passed away suddenly eight years ago... Even the charming Andreas has been flirting with the baton more recently: he recently conducted in Timișoara. Music is the art that, in one form or another, penetrates the soul of each of us. It moves us, it gives wings to thought and imagination. It is not a simple sound, but a force that guarantees the freedom to express our feelings. This time, the clarinet. A fascinating instrument, capable of reproducing a wide variety of nuances, from pianissimo to fortissimo, from delicate to aggressive, from discreet to penetrating in the upper register. Invented in 1690 by the German Johann Christoph Denner, derived from a Baroque instrument, the French "chalumeau," played only by highly skilled musicians, the clarinet is considered to have two distinct personalities: one male (low) and the other female (high). Sixteen clarinetists, teachers and students, members of the Arad Philharmonic, the Art Schools of Timișoara and Arad, and the Spiritus Sanctus College in Brig (Switzerland), offered us a program worthy of all the praise, admiration, and respect of an audience that loves good music. A pleasant surprise: the Clarinet Camerata of Romania Ensemble, founded by Arad clarinetist Tibi Vasile Boc, who brightened our day and delighted our souls. Most of the rehearsals are held in Timișoara, the city favored by the founder. A charismatic and exceptional presence: the Italian clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and conductor Giovanni Mattaliano, professor at the Alessandro Scarlatti Conservatory in Palermo. He won us over with his mastery, passion, and interpretive charm. Special praise goes to the two professors of the Faculty of Music, Cosmin Hărşian and Cristian Miclea, who are devoted to their students and fascinated by the technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument they play with such pleasure. Students who dared to decipher not-so-easy scores. Congratulations to everyone for this gift of sound, offered with great love to those who are sensitive to beauty!"
