5/6 as a Decimal

In order to change 5/6 to decimal form we need to divide 5 by 6. We know that since 5 is smaller than 6 we are going to end up with a number less than 1. We can divide 5/6 with a calculator or do it longhand. In this video I did the division longhand (but checked my answer with a calculator). When we divide 5 by 6, we get 0.83 (and the 3 repeats). So: 5/6 = 0.83... 0.83... is less than 1 so that is a good way to check if our answer is reasonable. You could also multiply your answer by the denominator and you should get the numerator. In this case 0.83... x 6 = 5. Note that 5/6 and 0.83... represent the same quantity, they are just written in different formats. 5/6 is a fraction and 0.83... is in decimal form.
