Harisree Ashokan, born on April 6, 1964, is an Indian actor and director recognized for his comedic performances in Malayalam cinema. He has appeared in over 200 Malayalam films. Ashokan began his career as a mimicry artist with the Harisree troupe before moving on to work with Kalabhavan.Ashokan, affectionately known as Babu, was born on April 6, 1964, in Ernakulam, Kochi, as the sixth of ten children to the late Kunjappan and the late Janaki. He has nine siblings, including the late Raveendran, the late Sasindran, Mohanan, Anil, Sunil, Santha, Vimala, and the late Sujatha. His primary education was completed at MIHS Ernakulam. Following his tenth grade, he enrolled in Kuyilin's Cochin Kalavedi. He obtained a diploma in Telecom Engineering from Ernakulam, Kerala. In 1984, he began his career as an assistant lineman with the Telecom Department in Kochi, Kerala, and advanced to the position of lineman by 1987. During his tenure, he also joined Kalabhavan, where he worked for six years before transitioning to Harisree, earning the nickname 'Harisree Ashokan.' His elder brother served as a telecom officer as well. Ashokan has always had a passion for acting and participated in amateur theatre. His cinematic debut came with the film Parvathy Parinayam, directed by P.G. Viswambharan, in which he portrayed the character of a beggar.Ashokan made his film debut in the 1986 production Pappan Priyappetta Pappan. In the subsequent years, he took on a variety of roles, gaining particular recognition for his portrayal of a beggar in the 1994 film Parvathy Parinayam, which marked a significant turning point in his acting career. Following this performance, he appeared in approximately ten films within the same year. His major breakthrough came with the film Vrudhanmare Sookshikkuka, also released in 1994, where he shared the screen with Dileep, with whom he would later establish one of the most beloved comedic partnerships in the Malayalam film industry. In the 1998 film Punjabi House, Ashokan portrayed the character Ramanan, which is widely regarded as one of the finest comedic roles in Malayalam cinema. This performance has garnered a cult following over the years. Another successful collaboration with Dileep occurred in the 2001 film Ee Parakkum Thalika, where he played Sundaran. In 2002, he took on the role of Sugunan in Meesha Madhavan, which became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of that year. Ashokan's most notable performances emerged in 2003, particularly in the slapstick comedy C.I.D. Moosa as Thorappan Kochunni and in Pulival Kalyanam as Theeppori Kuttappan. He also portrayed Krishankutty in Thilakkam and received acclaim for his role as Ugran in Chronic Bachelor. All these films were significant box office successes in 2003. In the 2005 Malayalam film Boyy Friennd, Ashokan ventured into playing a villain for the first time in his career. The comedic duo of Dileep and Harishree Ashokan has become a staple in Malayalam cinema, having collaborated on numerous films, including Vriddanmarund Sookshikkuga, Punjabi House, Ee Parakkum Thalika, Meesa Madhavan, C.I.D. Moosa, Thilakkam, Runway, Kochi Rajavu, Pandippada, Crazy Gopalan, Chess, Kuberan, and Kaaryastan, among others.Ashokan made his directional debut through the 2019 movie An International Local Story.
