What was their guidance? What was their way and example? The state of the salaf (in Ramadhan) has been recorded in the books of narration authentically narrated chains of trustworthy individuals, was that they used to ask Allah to allow them to reach Ramadhan before it began. They used to ask Allah to allow them to reach Ramadhan, because of the great good and vast benefits they know it contains. Then when Ramadhan enetered they would ask Allah that he concern them with righteous action in it (Ramadhan), then sadness would befall them when Ramadhan ended. They would ask Allah that he accepts from them (their actions) Like Allah ﷻ said; "And those who give that (their charity) which they gave (and also do other good deeds) with their hearts full of fear (whether their alms and charities etc have been accepted or not), because they're sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning) It is these who race for the good deeds, and they're foremost in them (e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on" (Surah Al-Mu'minoon; 60-61)
