Expert: PH should continue to challenge China's claims in South China Sea | ANC

Tensions between the U.S. and China are escalating after Washington sided with a 2016 arbitral tribunal's decision that favored Manila and invalidated Beijing's sweeping maritime claims in the South China Sea. De La Salle University International Studies Professor Renato De Castro believes the statement was prompted by China's perceived 'taking advantage of the pandemic' to pursue its territorial claims. And while he thinks the Philippines and other ASEAN claimants should let the U.S. and China settle their dispute, he stresses Manila should still continue to challenge Beijing's claims in the South China Sea.
