CINCINNATI (WKRC) - When it comes to the coronavirus, healthcare providers are teaming up to treat the whole person. Some of them are taking a holistic approach. That means providers from multiple specialties are coming together to share staff, resources and information. As part of the Health Collaborative, a room is full of everything from pastoral care leaders for spiritual health, to emergency medicine and infectious disease specialists. The goal is to be able to provide what's needed to treat the whole person. "The hospitals have a strong history of working together collaboratively to come together to improve the outcomes in these critical times, said Tiffany Mattingly of The Health Collaborative. "So, we're convening the hospitals on a daily basis every day, 7 days a week. We have our chief medical officer, the leaderships of the hospitals and the health system as well as the health commissioners. We're pulling together public health and the health systems together to make sure that we're coming at this from a holistic perspective." If you look up the definition of that word medicine in the Oxford Dictionary, it is medical care characterized by the treatment of the whole person and taking into account mental and social factors rather than just the symptoms of the disease. But they are asking all of us to do the same, to treat each other with kindness, and understanding with everything from buying supplies to what we say to each other on social media.
