This video uncovers a scam that we discovered about a "TRUSTED" Toyota dealership we were "LOYAL" customers to for 6 years. More details of the FULL story is posted below. The best vehicle we have ever owned, by far, is our Toyota RAV4 Limited Edition. For 6 years we faithfully took our Rav4 to be properly maintained exclusively at the Toyota dealership where we had purchased the vehicle. Then there was an incident with a Service manager that gave us cause to question the dealership that we had been loyal to for so many years. After our last visit for some brake work, the service manager told us that whoever we had do work on our brakes the last time had no idea what they were doing! The problem was that the only people to ever touch the brakes on our RAV4 were the people at that Toyota garage! So after a little time had passed, & still somewhat suspicious of our last encounter at the dealership, we were a little more than anxious to take the tires off the Rav & have a look at the brake work the garage had done. There were no strange noises or problems with the brakes, other than a front end shimmy that had been haunting us for quite some time. We never personally did our own brake work on our RAV4, & the new challenge was irresistible. We thought we could kill three birds with one stone — first, we would get a look at the Toyota shop's brake work - we really didn't expect to find anything wrong their work. Second, we would be ahead of the game by changing the brake pads before they actually needed to be changed. Third, we thought it would be fun to make a YouTube video of a complete front & rear brake & rotor job on our RAV. The front brakes would be our first attack. On our previous visit, the garage had installed new rotors on all four wheels, and replaced the rear brake pads - the front brake pads were left as they were. And on our last & final visit to our long trusted Rav4 dealer, we went with a complaint that the front end of our Rav would shimmy between 45-50 mph when the brakes were applied. We dropped our RAV off for an overnight stay, & went back the next evening to pick it up. The service department manager was furious — out of habit we locked the car when we left & it automatically turned the alarm on - & then left the garage people with a spare key incapable of shutting off the alarm system. An honest mistake on our part. The service manager was livid for the next 5 minutes going into deep detail what had to be done to get into the car - he said it took them 45 minutes to get the alarm to stop. We were afraid to even ask why a phone call was not made to us - we just kept apologizing. The shop had replaced all 4 rotors & the rear brake pads - which was fine with us. On the way home we noticed everything was gone we had left in the car - they had stripped us clean. It was only small stuff - a couple dozen Wet-Ones & Small packs of Kleenex & things of that sort - we know to never leave anything in the car we don't want stolen when dropping a car off for work to be performed. For the next week, the Rav brakes made strange noises when they were used - after that first week, the noises finally went away. We pretty much had figured they didn't lube the new brakes properly, as revenge concerning the car alarm incident, and the noises would go away on their own — which they did. So a year & a half or two later, we decided to change the front brakes early and found everything within a normal wear & tear condition - except one slider pin was slightly bent and was not working properly - which is also a normal occurrence. Then it was a year or so after that that the rear brake wear indicators started to screech & needed maintenance. We were shocked to find out what the garage had done - although we shouldn't have been because you hear about these kind of things going on all the time. After our brakes were all fixed and ready to go, we got the idea to create a YouTube video about what the dealership was up to. So we finally got our Dealership Scam video produced. Maybe someday, if we get around to it, we will piece together the video clips and publish our "How to Change Brakes and Rotors on Your Rav4".
