Bruichladdich - The Laddie Eight Whisky REVIEW || Non Smoky Scotch!

This is the Bruichladdich Laddie Eight, and it is an Islay Whisky, but not like you'd expect. Scotch Whiskys, especially those from the Island of Islay are known for their peat smoke influence, but this is an unpeated Islay whisky which focuses on letting the flavour from the barley and the cask influence shine through. Not to be confused with The Classic Laddie, the Bruichladdich Laddie 8 was originally a travel retail exclusive, but now it should be available in most good whiskey shops around the world. It's made in small batches of 55 different casks, coming in at two different ages and and with different cask types being used in the maturation. It's eight years old and comes in at 50% ABV, which helps it deliver a nice profile in the glass. Bruichladdich have batch codes on the bottles, which should let you see the exact make-up of your bottle, but the details of this batch, 22/136, don't seem to be available yet. In any case, it's a very nice, very easy to drink bottle, and it definitely makes me want to try it side by side against The Classic Laddie to see the difference! Bruichladdic Laddie Eight Tasting Notes: Nose: Immediately, sweet lemon zest jumps out of the glass, backed up with a lot of sweet brown sugar, kind of like a lemon-glazed cookie. The malted barley comes through as a honeyed, caramelised orchard fruit note, rather than that 'funk' you can get on some malts. Palate: Buttery biscuits and lemon are once again apparent, the ABV is present, but well incorporated. Towards the mid-palate, there's a little salty note coming through, reminding me of a salted caramel. Finish: As the sweet, buttery notes fade off, a little bit of oak spice comes through towards the end of the finish, but otherwise, it's soft and easy-going, with the ABV allowing it to have a longer finish than it might otherwise have. ------------------------------------------------------- I'm a total whiskey nerd and this channel is all about Whiskey, Whisky, Bourbon, Rye, Pot Still Whiskey and Single Malt Whiskey.
