If you enjoyed this video, please consider subscribing and you'll see the next topics when they come out. • Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) cause severe exfoliation and involve mucosal surfaces • Severe staph infections, e.g. Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS) cause a widespread, angry red rash. Also toxic shock syndrome (TSS) which may be caused by prolonged tampon use (though incidence of this has significantly decreased) The common features of these are: 1. The patient is often really unwell 2. The rash looks really bad (although can look less severe in the early stages) These conditions are rare enough that most emergency doctors do not see them regularly, but just remember that they are out there if you ever see a really nasty angry red rash or a patient is very unwell with a rash.
