🍊✨ PORTOKALOPITA – THE INCREDIBLE GREEK ORANGE CAKE ✨🍊 If you’ve never tried Portokalopita, you’re about to discover one of the most delicious desserts from Greece! Made with crispy phyllo dough soaked in an orange and cinnamon syrup, this cake has a unique, juicy, and soft texture that melts in your mouth. And the aroma? Simply addictive! 🔥 Today, I’m going to teach you the step-by-step of this traditional Greek recipe so you can make this delight at home! 🔥 📝 Ingredients: 🔸 For the Syrup 375ml water 325g refined sugar 85ml fresh orange juice 1 cinnamon stick ¼ teaspoon orange blossom water (optional) 🔸 For the Cake: 450g phyllo dough 4 eggs 145g refined sugar Zest of 2 oranges 285g plain Greek yogurt 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda ¼ teaspoon salt 240ml vegetable oil (canola, sunflower, or olive oil) 125ml fresh orange juice ____________________________ 👩🍳 Preparation Method 1️⃣ Prepare the Syrup In a saucepan, add the water, sugar, orange juice, and cinnamon stick. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once it starts boiling, lower the heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat, add the orange blossom water (if using), and let it cool completely. 2️⃣ Dry the Phyllo Dough Preheat the oven to 90°C (195°F). Take the phyllo sheets and crumble them with your hands into small pieces. Spread the crumbled pieces on baking trays and bake for 10 minutes. Flip the pieces over and bake for another 8 minutes. Turn off the oven, slightly open the door, and let them dry completely. 3️⃣ Prepare the Cake Batter Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a large bowl, beat the eggs with the sugar until light and fluffy. Add the orange zest, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract. Mix well. Stir in the baking powder, baking soda, and salt gently. In another bowl, mix the oil and orange juice, then gradually add them to the batter. Finally, add the dried and crumbled phyllo dough, folding gently until fully incorporated. 4️⃣ Bake the Cake Grease a 20x30cm baking pan and pour in the batter. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until golden brown. Check with a toothpick – it should come out clean, but the cake will still be moist inside. 5️⃣ Finish with the Syrup As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, poke holes all over the surface with a fork or toothpick. Pour the cold syrup over the hot cake, adding it gradually so it absorbs well. Let it cool completely before serving. 🔥 TIP: This cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors intensify! Serve with vanilla ice cream or a spoonful of Greek yogurt for an even more amazing experience! 😍 ____________________ 🔔 Subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications for more amazing recipes! 📢 Tag your friends who NEED to try this delight and share this recipe!
