Man In The Middle Attack Hooking Browsers With BEEF Ethical Hacking Lab A Man in the Middle Attack (MITM) combined with Browser Exploitation Framework (BeEF) can be used to hook and control a victim's browser for security testing and penetration testing purposes. This method allows attackers or ethical hackers to inject malicious scripts into a victim's web traffic and gain control over their browsing session. Overview of the Attack MITM Attack Setup The attacker intercepts the communication between a victim and a legitimate website. This can be done using ARP Spoofing, DNS Spoofing, or rogue Wi-Fi networks. Tools like Ettercap, Bettercap, and MITMf are commonly used for MITM attacks. Injecting BeEF Hook BeEF (Browser Exploitation Framework) is used to inject a JavaScript hook (hook.js) into the victim’s browsing session. This is achieved by modifying HTTP traffic to include the BeEF hook in the responses. Once hooked, the attacker's BeEF control panel can execute commands on the victim’s browser. Controlling the Victim’s Browser After successful injection, the attacker can: Monitor the victim's web activity. Steal credentials (via phishing popups or keyloggers). Redirect them to malicious sites. Exploit browser vulnerabilities for deeper access.
