In this video, Lee Guffick walks through the first three questions of the Edexcel A-Level Maths 2020 Paper 2 (Pure). This session covers Numerical Methods (Trapezium Rule), Vectors in 2D geometry, and solving Logarithmic equations.I break down how to accurately use the Trapezium Rule formula, how to approach vector proofs using relative paths, and why you must always check your final answers in log questions for validity to avoid losing marks.⏱️ TIMESTAMPS:0:00 - Introduction (Summer 2020 Paper)0:10 - Q1(a): Numerical Methods - Using the Trapezium Rule2:37 - Q1(b): Deducing an estimate for a related integral (scaling by $\sqrt{9}$)4:03 - Q1(c): Commenting on the accuracy of the approximation4:56 - Q2: Vectors - Proof involving a straight line & ratios5:48 - Q2: Finding the path from O to Q7:02 - Q3(a): Logarithms - Solving a log equation to form a quadratic8:41 - Q3(b)(i): Finding the roots of the quadratic equation9:34 - Q3(b)(ii): Identifying the invalid root (Log domain error)✏️ TOPICS COVERED:Numerical Methods (The Trapezium Rule)Integration estimation and error analysisVector geometry and proofsPosition vectors and ratios of linesLaws of Logarithms (Power Law)Solving Logarithmic Equations & QuadraticsDomain and validity of Logarithmic functions💯 EXAM TIPS:Trapezium Rule Accuracy: Be careful with bracket placement in your calculator. Remember the formula is $\frac{1}{2}h [y_0 + y_n + 2(\text{middle values})]$. A small bracket error here can cost you all the accuracy marks.Deducing Integrals: For questions like Q1(b) where the function changes slightly (e.g., a $9$ inside the root), use surd laws to pull constants out. You often don't need to redo the whole calculation, just scale your previous answer!Check Your Log Answers: In Q3(b), always substitute your solutions back into the original log equation. You cannot have a log of a negative number (e.g., $\log(-4)$ is undefined). If a solution creates this, you must reject it.📚 ABOUT GUFFICK TUITION:Lee Guffick is a former Head of Mathematics and A-Level Examiner helping students achieve A*/A grades and secure places at top universities including Oxford, Cambridge and the Ivy League.📅 JOIN OUR PROGRAMME:→ Personalised 1:1 tutoring: https://www.gufficktuition.com/tutoring→ Small group classes: https://www.gufficktuition.com/group-...
