IRONSTONE EXTREME | RACE DAY | GRASSROOTS AHEC

In this video we're racing the Grassroots AHEC Ironstone Extreme, located in the sleepy township of Mount Morgan in Queensland. After finishing the relatively fast prologue/qualifying run on the Saturday, we're up bright and early to make the drive to the track for the 7am grid line-up. Conditions are quite dusty due to it being so dry for the last few weeks, and having several hundred dirt bikes passing over the racing line doesn't help much either. Despite these conditions, throughout the race we get to experience all sorts of terrain such as sand, big and HUGE rocks, loamy soil, slab rock, wet creeks, thick scrub, gravel and talcum powder. Something for everyone - fun for the whole family! I started to get arm pump pretty early on and was pretty tired by the time I arrived at the big rocky creek section - I was pretty disappointed that I would have to struggle through it. Normally I absolutely LOVE picking my way through these sections as line choice and bike placement is super important. It was a fairly challenging course with not much in the way of flat transit sections where you could have a bit of a rest. Huge credit to the team at Grassroots, and more importantly a big thumbs up to the team of riders that spent their time cutting and marking the track for this new round. Well done! Not too much carnage on my behalf, the Fasta Pasta machine (Beta 300RR) held up really well - super happy with it so far! I was running the Shinko 525 Cheater (120/100-18) on the rear and Mitas Terra Force Super Light (90/90-21) on the front, both of which I'm really happy with.
