Aselsan, a Turkish arms manufacturer, has developed a new short-range air defense system called "Gurz." Gurz is designed to be a competitor to the popular Russian air defense system, Pantsir-S. The Gruz is claimed to be an all-new development offering some of the latest in target detection and destruction. The Pantsir-S is Russia’s long standing low-altitude air defense system and has seen action in several wars including the current conflict in Ukraine. Russia claims that with a recent upgrade, it has achieved a 100% interception rate against US-made HIMARS rockets, as well as drones, rockets, low-flying helicopters, and missiles. Tracking and Targeting: Russian Pantsir: It can engage targets flying at high speeds (up to 1,000 meters per second) and at distances ranging from 200 meters to 20 km. Turkish Gurz: Tracking and detection range has not been disclosed. Key components: The Gurz Air Defense System is equipped with a 35mm Air Defense Gun, Very Low Altitude Air Defense Missiles, Low Altitude Air Defense Missiles, an Active Phased Array (AESA) Search Radar, fire control radar, electro-optical sensors, and a data link. The Russian Pantsir-SM-SV is fitted with the GM-5970 weapon station besides two-barrelled 30mm automatic cannons, twelve launchers for surface-to-air missiles, with 6 missile containers mounted on each side of the turret. Mobility: Russian Pantsir: The Pantsir-S is a wheeled platform while a recent upgrade, the Pantsir-SM-SV is a tracked version. Turkish Gurz: Mounted on a wheeled 8x8 vehicle platform, providing mobility for rapid deployment. Reported Advanced Features: Russian Pantsir: Boasts advanced software upgrades and improvements based on battlefield performance, leading to an increased interception of various targets. Turkish Gurz: Turkish media reports suggest that the Gurz system is expected to have more advanced features compared to the Pantsir-S.
