A very interesting vanity project by Carson Ellis. The book’s lacking of conventional narrative structure is actually its greatest strength. While it’s probably not for everyone, I do recommend “One Week In January”. While the tone is dry, it carries whit through the author’s natural voice. It’s honest, and, in turn, very inspiring. Its depiction of young 20s life is a rare breed. It’s devoid of any romance or violence. It’s just the seemingly existential, aimless wandering. Yet, there is an omnipotence that is held by the reader, knowing that these journal entries are from a quarter century ago. It translates into a hopeful irony. It was a fun exercise to read the book in line with the entry dates, but in the current year. A lot has changed, but not much at all. • Carson Ellis is on a book tour now, as an illustrator for a new “Rumoelstiltskin” adaptation! I am not endorsed by her or her publisher. I’m just a fan of her work.
