Compound nevi are usually raised and skin-colored, with uniform pigmentation. These moles have features of both junctional and intradermal nevi. They are acquired nevi. The melanocytes that make them are located both in the dermo-epidermal junction and the dermis. Removal of a small nevus consists of a simple excision, cutting out the affected area and stitching the surrounding skin back together. Removing a large nevus is a much more daunting process. Depending on the magnitude of the condition, the nevus is cut out in sections. After skin excision, you may have stitches until your wound heals. This might result in a scar that should fade as the wound heals. The rate at which cancer wound heals mostly depends on its size. Generally, most wounds take an average of 1-3 weeks to heal.
