Shehersaaz reached a new milestone in climate adaptation by successfully concluding its PROGRESSIVE program with a MOC ceremony in Rawalpindi. The event marked the formal handover of Rainwater Harvesting Units to 18 government schools, setting a new standard for climate-resilient and eco-friendly learning environments. Officials from the education department, school principals, project teams, and community partners joined to celebrate this achievement. Tariq Mehmood, CEO of the District Education Authority Rawalpindi, praised Shehersaaz for championing sustainable education through practical, community-centered solutions that strengthen school-level resilience. Project Manager Dr. Beenish provided an insightful overview of the initiative, explaining how each Rainwater Harvesting Unit was designed, installed, and integrated into school routines to enhance water security and boost environmental awareness among students and teachers. Hosted by Ms. Anahita Sajjad, an engaging Q&A session with on-site engineer Abdullah shed light on the technical challenges and collaborations that made the program successful. The Disaster Risk Reduction component actively prepares students for real-life challenges with targeted training in first aid, solid waste management, and environmental care. Students learn to segregate waste, produce compost, and cultivate kitchen gardens, fostering responsibility and climate consciousness. The hallmark of the ceremony was the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation by principals of the 18 schools, formalizing their commitment to maintain and own the systems that transform their schools into PROGRESSIVE SCHOOLS. Implemented in partnership with UN Habitat and the Adaptation Fund, the program goes beyond water solutions—incorporating urban farming and energy efficiency to turn schools into resilience and sustainability hubs. The ceremony also celebrated Shehersaaz's 29th anniversary, highlighting nearly three decades of leadership in sustainable urban development and community climate action. PROGRESSIVE embodies Shehersaaz’s vision of innovation and collaboration to build smarter, safer, and greener cities for generations to come.
