Take classes with me - https://reasonio.teachable.com/ This is a video in my Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker. This Core Concept video focuses on the French Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne's work, the Essays, and specifically on his essay "On Anger". It discusses his views on this emotion, partly drawn from other thinkers like Seneca and Plutarch. First Montaigne discusses children and other vulnerable people who suffer from cruel and violent punishments doled out in anger. He then discusses how anger tends to deform our judgements, leading angry people to dig in and get angry with truth or innocence itself. He also discusses the example Plutarch himself provides of imposing punishment when needed but not doing so out of anger If you'd like to support my work producing videos like this, become a Patreon supporter!
