In this paper bead tutorial, I show you how I hand paint onto strong brown paper and then turn it into brown paper fabric to create beautiful paper beads and a pretty gift pouch to store the necklace inside. The beautiful paper bead necklace gift set is very easy to make and is perfect to give as unique gifts for birthdays or during the holiday seasons. I show you exactly how I treat my recycled brown paper to get this fabric like quality that can be stitched. It even looks like thin leather when made into a pouch. The paper beads in my necklaces are all different sizes which makes them look very arty and Bohemian. My method of creating brown paper fabric for these paper beads is to use a Gelli plate but you could use a brush. I just find the Gelli plate method more economical for the paint. If you love making paper beads, you may find you also like making these pouches too - they really compliment the paper bead necklaces and add a special touch if you are giving your paper bead jewelry away as gifts. You can give friends and family beautiful handmade pieces that they will not find anywhere else because each painted piece of paper is unique - you can't copy it. And these beads are durable because brown paper, especially brown paper bags designed to carry groceries, are pretty robust. I made my first brown paper fabric beads many years ago and I still wear the bracelets I made from them. Have a go at making your own hand painted papers and make beads with them. And if you don't fancy painting your own, go to my website and get the free printables I am giving away of some of the artwork featured in this tutorial.
