This is the Sun Life Great Race, the Tour de France of road running, 20 Stages in 22 days, over 223 miles between Glasgow and London in September 1990. 107 invited male runners from all over the world, all of whom capable of 27 to 32 minutes for 10k, and a million pound plus budget. There has never been anything like it before or since. It shows road running at its best. The first stage was not the most exciting but please stick with it, the African runners did not dominate for too long. There were some very controversial moments including an amazing conclusion to the King of the Mountains competition, some hilarious interviews and commentary, the broom wagon waiting to pounce if you slowed to 6 minute miles, amazing fast overall sub 5 minute mile running and some close sprint finishes.
