HIDDEN WW2 BUNKERS ABOVE OMAHA BEACH IN NORMANDY

Widerstandsnest 60 stands 50 metres above the most famous stretch of sand in WW2 - Omaha Beach, Normandy. It was packed with firepower - two 7.5cm field guns trained on the beach, machine gun and mortar bunkers able to rain down on the troops below, plus zig-zag trenches and defensive posts dug into the hillside. Surrounded by minefields, barbed wire, and automatic flamethrowers too, Wn60 was a tough objective handed to the 16th Regiment of the US 1st Infantry Division on D-Day - June 6, 1944. In our latest film from Normandy, we take you on a walk through the trenches, into the mortar and MG positions, and underground into a big concrete bunker and an unfinished tunnel system. We also take you above the site with some amazing drone footage of the trenches and bunkers. Discover how the 1st Infantry overcame the defences and captured the site, along with the German soldiers fighting to stop the Allies getting a foothold in France.
