Testing the Borma Wachs two part wood bleach to show faster and stronger wood lightening results. Two part wood bleach creates faster and stronger colour lightening than using hydrogen peroxide alone. If you want to lighten wood more dramatically or you are working on a larger furniture piece, a two part bleach can get you there in only one or two coats. In this video, I am using the Borma Wachs two part wood bleach, which is readily available across Europe through woodworking and refinishing suppliers. Some of their products are also available in the United States, but availability can vary depending on region and distributor. I tested this two part bleach on walnut, beech, and mahogany, applying two coats to each sample so you can see how the tone shifts with repeated applications. The results are much faster and more dramatic than what you would see using a weak hydrogen peroxide solution. With hydrogen peroxide, you can achieve a similar lightened tone, but you may need many applications to reach the same level. If you prefer more gradual colour control when refinishing or when matching old veneer to new veneer, I recommend watching my hydrogen peroxide bleaching video next. Hydrogen peroxide allows you to build tone slowly and with more precision, while two part bleach gives fast colour shifts but less step-by-step control. Borma Wachs advises that this bleach is not ideal for high tannin woods like oak and mahogany. I have used it on both. It does bleach them, but the final colour can lean slightly grey and may be less even than the results I see on walnut and beech.
