Securing tobacco supply chains

For the tobacco industry, the threat of cargo crime is a daily, often violent, and costly challenge. In 2021, the TAPA EMEA Intelligence System (TIS) recorded 126 incidents of thefts or attempted thefts of tobacco products in 13 countries in the EMEA region, and losses of millions of euros for the 20% of cases sharing a value. The Tobacco Working Group (TWG) consists of supply chain security professionals from the world’s leading tobacco companies and is focused on using TAPA’s Standards and intelligence resources to manage the risk of criminal attacks and prevent product losses. In this presentation, Gino Laios discusses the tobacco industry’s learnings and experiences, and how working together as an industry sector is increasing supply chain resilience.
