(4 Apr 2005) 1. Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick walking through airport and then approaching microphone stand to speak to reporters 2. SOUNDBITE: (English) Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, archbishop of Washington: "You feel these changes as you start getting ready to go. You know, we've been grieving for the Holy Father, and we will still be doing that obviously, and praying for him, and you know, thanking God that he had such a great life and that he did so many great things. And sure that the Lord will take him into His loving embrace. But now you get a second feeling and it's a feeling of some anxiety because you're going to do something that is very special (choosing a new pope)." 3. Reporters, tilt up to wide of Cardinal McCarrick 4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, archbishop of Washington: "You know you're going to share with another 116 people that extraordinary opportunity and that extraordinary responsibility (of choosing a new pope). McCarrick, the archbishop of Washington, said he's a little nervous about the extraordinary responsibility of helping to select a new pope. McCarrick added that it will be the most important thing he's done in his life. At the airport, the cardinal asked for prayers and support as he got ready to depart for Rome. McCarrick joins 116 other Roman Catholic Cardinals under the age of 80 who will elect a new pope. Eleven cardinals from the US, including McCarrick, will be part of the process. Cardinal McCarrick is expected to arrive in Rome on Monday morning and will likely stay at the Vatican until a new pope is chosen. The College of Cardinals is to meet at 10 a.m. (0800GMT) on Monday in its first gathering before a secret election to be held later this month to choose a successor to John Paul II. The cardinals were expected to set a date for his funeral, which the Vatican said was expected between Wednesday and Friday.
