Today we're going to be taking a look at the best wiring options for our Subaru Forester. These are going to give you the most bang for your buck, and they're very solid so you'll be good with either one that you choose. They're pretty similar throughout for most of them, but there are a few differences. Let's cover those now.On our Tekonsha here, you'll notice that our module has all the wiring coming out of the bottom, with potting material there that keeps it sealed and keeps all the components inside from rattling around. This makes for a very durable module in a very small package. Our CURT has wires that come out each side, and it doesn't have that potting material filling it like our other one. This just makes it more difficult to get this module in a smaller location with the wires coming out of each side, and it doesn't have the history of being as durable as the Tekonsha without that potting material.Both of our harnesses are custom fit, and they're a plug and play design. You simply have to take the single connector here and plug it into your factory tow package connector and you're good to go. Our Tekonsha has everything integrated into this single connector, including your ground wire, while our CURT has everything but the ground wire. The ground wire is separate and would require to use a self-tapping screw or find a grounding stud near the connector to get it attached. It's just one extra little step that's kind of unnecessary since it's able to be integrated into the connector like the Tekonsha did.Now when it comes down to the total total output of our two harnesses here, our Tekonsha's going to be a little bit less with only 2.1 amps available on your stop/turn circuits, and 5.6 amps available on your tail lamp circuits. Our CURT's a little bit higher here at three amps on the stop/turn and six amps on your taillights. So if you need a few extra lights that you want to run with your taillights, the CURT might be a better option. They're pretty close, but the CURT does have a small edge there.When we take a look at the additional hardware that comes with our harness, our Tekonsha only comes with a couple of zip ties. Our CURT comes with a slew of things, however, this is kind of a standard bag that comes with CURT wiring harnesses, and a lot of the stuff in here you don't really even need. There's butt connectors you won't be using, ring terminals you won't be using. The only thing that you need from here is the self-tapping screw to connect the ground, the fuse which you'll need to insert inside of the fuse holder on our wiring harness, but you do get an awful lot of zip ties, which is nice to keep everything clean.Our Tekonsha here doesn't actually need anything but some zip ties. It doesn't have a ground wire to attach. It simply plugs in, the fuse is already pre-installed, so all you need here is a couple of zip ties to get it all bounded up. Now the only thing that would be nice on our Tekonsha is if it would have came with a sticky double-sided pad to keep your module secure. You're going to have to use a zip tie to do that. Our CURT does have a sticky pad with it, which is kind of nice to keep this up out of the way and from rattling around.Lastly, when it comes down to our four-pole ends, they're going to be basically the same. Our wire colors are going to be slightly different shades, but still the standard colors. But they do have slightly different dust caps. The Tekonsha has a dust cap that's made onto the four-pole end, which is going to prevent you from losing it, so I kind of like that. The CURT, you have to slide it on after you get it installed, which is fine. It does work and it can be kind of nice if you want to run the wiring outside the vehicle. However, both of these are intended to live inside the vehicle. But if you do want to do that routed out, being able to take this off can make this fit through a little bit smaller of a hole than this one would.In summary, I would probably choose the Tekonsha over the CURT. It does have a little bit less power than our CURT does, but it's so small of a difference that it's probably not going to make too much of a difference for you. You're probably going to be
