Campbeltown is one of the most remote harbour towns in Scotland, and today, only a handful of whisky fans make the long drive down the Kintyre peninsula. In fact, some remain unaware that Campbeltown is one of the five Scotland whisky regions, albeit the smallest. In the 19th century, Campbeltown was the whisky capital of the world. The sky was the limit and the idea of a Scotch whisky industry without Campbeltown at its forefront was unthinkable. Over 30 whisky distilleries chose to open in this small town. However, only three distilleries remain open today, these include Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle (bottled as Kilkerran).
