However, due to complaints about overcrowding, they have now reduced the number of daily tickets they sell to 30,000. That is a substantial reduction. It means that you should now pre-book a timed-entry ticket for the museum. I would suggest doing this 1-2 weeks before your visit to avoid disappointment. -The last entry to the museum is 1 hour before closing time and museum staff will start pushing people out the doors 30 minutes before closing time. -The Louvre is busiest from around 11am to 2pm. It is quieter first thing in the morning and closer to closing time. The quietest time is Friday evening when the museum stays open late. To cover the substantial reduction in revenue due to the drop in the number of daily tickets available, the Louvre now charges visitors from outside the European Union 50% more for their tickets. That means for non-EU visitors the cost is now Euro 32 (about USD $40). Don't forget the Louvre is closed on Tuesdays as are most museums in Paris. There are a number of websites that sell tickets for the Louvre but they are not the official website for the museum. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE WEBSITES. You will pay a premium and there is a chance that your ticket will not be honoured once you arrive at the Louvre. Incidentally, this issue applies to all the major museums in Paris. Make sure you only buy your tickets from the official Louvre Museum website.
