Laura has two suggestions to help you (or any team members having troubles) learn how to ask your dental patients to pay: 1. You need to get comfortable talking to your patients about money! - If we are not comfortable talking to our patients about money, at the end of the day, many patients will schedule and just not show up, or they show up but then won’t pay. If we don’t get our patients to pay, we won’t have a job! 2. Payment is part of the process! - Your dental office is a business, just like any other business. You don’t go into any other types of businesses and NOT pay for something or not knowing at least what you are expected to pay! We need to understand and remember that until a patient has fully worked out how much they are going to have to pay, how much they owe and how much they have to pay for it, they have not fully committed to the treatment, leaving a higher chance the patient will not show up for their scheduled appointment. The Take-Away: If you want to help your patients keep their teeth for life, help your practice do well, and help make sure the patients are going to arrive, it is vital that your team can effectively communicate through these often delicate discussions!
