NASA Goddard Space Facility interviews Astronaut Jonny Kim for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May 2020. Original Link to Full Interview: https://video.ibm.com/recorded/126729508 Jonny Kim loved reading books as a kid - which included technical articles and military books - one stood out: "About Face" by Col. David Hackworth, the stories of an Army Infantry company fighting in Vietnam and lessons learned, which inspired him as he vowed to instill the military discipline in his life that he always dreamed of. He would later serve under Jocko Willink, who would also be an extremely big fan of Col.David Hackworth and his book "About Face", and often share what he learned from it with Jonny and his teammates in Task Unit Bruiser in training and in war in Ramadi, Iraq. To this day, he shares many of its teachings on his podcast, The Jocko Podcast. Jocko would also write the foreword for a new edition of "About Face", highlighting how Hackworth's words helped him lead Task Unit Bruiser and how he saw the actions of his men in Ramadi align with what Hackworth wrote about what he learned from fighting in the Vietnam War.
