:Dr. Praveen Kumar Vemula, a researcher at InStem, discussed how different institutions inspired him to develop innovative healthcare technologies. Starting with the issue of metal watches causing contact dermatitis, his team created a hydrogel with nanoparticles to prevent metal particles from entering the skin. He highlighted the importance of translational research, outlining three steps to solving problems: "Me too," "Me better," and "Me only" technologies. His team developed protective solutions for farmers, including an anti-pesticide cream, anti-pesticide fabric, and Kisan Kavach. They also created the G99+ antiviral mask, which kills bacteria on contact. Additionally, they worked on a disease-responsive drug delivery system to target specific tissues and novel blood bags to improve stored blood quality and shelf life.In his concluding remarks, Dr. Vemula reflected on how reimagining sciences and reality has changed his perception of translational sciences and How innovative technologies can be made in the Indian academia system and we can have a great societal impact. Research Investigator at inStem: Dr Praveen Kumar Vemula works at the Institute for Stem Cell Science and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), Bangalore, focusing on the fields of biomaterials, nanomaterials, drug delivery, medical devices, and chemical biology Innovative Lab Focus: His laboratory's central theme involves exploiting the potential of self-assembled prodrug-based nanomaterials as 'next-generation biomaterials' for translational research to address unmet biomedical need Prolific Scholar: He has published more than 65 peer-reviewed papers, delivered over 100 national and international invited lectures, and holds more than 20 issued or pending national/international patents Entrepreneurial Achievements: Technologies developed in Dr. Vemula's lab have led to the creation of multiple products currently on the market or under development, contributing to the launch of four companies. These include an anti-pesticide technologies company in India, a drug discovery company for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) in the USA, a skincare company in France, and an inflammation targeting company in the USA This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
