Cool Led Zep Stuff: https://amzn.to/3Cvvo1b Tabs & More: / mybluesguitar In this video we are going to count down a top five of rapid-fire Jimmy Page licks, all of which were inspired by Jimmy's work with Led Zeppelin in early '69. In particular, I refer you to two appearances that were filmed that March of that year. The first was in Copenhagen, Denmark on the 17th of March for radio and TV broadcast. And the second took place the following day, March 18th, at Staines in England, for Supershow. This was the period before Jimmy acquired his first sunburst Les Paul, when he was still using the rosewood-board 1959 Telecaster, the ash body of which he himself had stripped and painted over with a Japanese-looking design of a Dragon These licks are very much of the old-school of fast guitar playing, with extensive use of hammer-ons and pull-offs. The right hand is working very hard and it's not just alternate picking. Jimmy Page blasted his way through licks in his own singular style. You'll first hear the five licks at speed, then I'll slow them down and show a couple of camera angles for each. Lick Number Five is a variation on the classic blues lick. Number Four uses a combined hammer-on and pull-off. Play it on the G and B strings at the 17th fret, as show in the demo, or on the B and top E at the 12th fret. Coming in at Number Three is this triplet lick which has some alternating top-E pull-offs, from the 15th to the 12th fret, then from the 17th to the 12th fret. At Number Two on the llst, this lick has an upstroke on the top E followed by a pull-off on the B string. Number One on our list is another variation on the classic blues lick, similar to the solo in Communication Breakdown. I hope you enjoy the video and find it useful.
